The How Green are You? event sponsored by Students for Responsible Business and CSPD was a tremendous success and a great accomplishment not only for SRB but for the awareness of social corporate responsibility. The hard work paid off and a great number of Temple University students partook in the event, educating themselves on the various environmental advancements the present companies have incorporated into their business model. The company that I found to be not only enticing, but also passionate about their implementation was Hewlett Packard. I spoke to HP’s Marketing Manager, Ann Frey who informed me about the company’s current initiatives and accomplishments regarding the green movement. Presently, they reduce energy and environmental waste with innovative product designs and use virtual desktop infrastructure. Also, it was impressive that HP has implemented their own sustainable services like HP’s Planet Partners recycling services and HP Asset Recovery Services, which recycle equipment, rechargeable batteries, and printing supplies. However, the most inspiring feature of Hewlett Packard’s initiatives is not only their concern for reduction of energy use and waste, but their emphasis on social corporate responsibility in their work environment. Although I did not attend HP’s presentation, Pamela Lach, the Director of Marketing, also spoke to students about the company’s initiatives and positive feedback about the speech circulated around the Fox School of Business.I would like to thank both Ann Frey and Pamela Lach for being so committed and well informed about HP’s current and future projects and for taking the time out of their busy schedules to explain the importance of sustainability to the students of Temple University.
