Temple University’s Recycling Department, Computer Recycling Center, Students for Responsible Business and many other sustainable promoting clubs come together at Liacouras Walk to promote “America Recycles Day.” As Temple’s recycling department displays the basics of recycling and what Temple does as a whole to make a difference in the environment, the Computer Recycling center passes out free binders and recycled office supplies to students walking by. Our table promotes recycling by giving out pamphlets about Recycle Bank, which is a program promoted by Philadelphia that gives out rewards for recycling. We also sold a couple reusable water canteens and got a couple members to join!
I also learned a little more about Temple’s Recycling program – we not only recycle paper & plastic but we also take all of the waste from our dining halls and compost it as well. Waste management takes food waste about 3 x a week to be composted, which adds up to 20-25 tons of waste per month. The school’s goal is to cut their waste in half by Earth day. Tyler’s school of Art also makes a change by recycling their glass that they use in their art classes. Temple is really making a difference by taking the responsible initiative to use our resources as sustainably as possible. That’s what we’re all about.
